OUR JOURNEY OFF THE BOAT
Chinese Student Association prides itself on preserving the rich cultural traditions and heritage that have become the club’s definitive foundation. The oldest cultural organization on campus, Chinese Student Association was formed by Young Louis, son of the respected community leader Ah Louis. Young Louis and his wife Stella were affectionately referred to as “Mom” and “Pop.” Together they formed the club as a means to help ease the transition for many Chinese international students coming to the United States, as well as providing an outlet for Chinese Americans at Cal Poly. The values established by these early pioneers are alive and thriving today.
TRADITIONS
ANNUAL CHINESE NEW YEAR BANQUET
Every February, CSA puts together an evening dinner and show for the community to celebrate the coming of the new year. This is the CSA event to attend. The entire night is planned, produced and directed by our own members. This results in a greatly multipled awesome factor. In the years prior, dinner has been provided by SLO's awarding winning Imperial China. Sadly, the owners of Imperial China have retired the restaurant and Campus Catering will be cooking in their place. It is a night you will never forget so come on by and let's make some magic.
SIBLING PROGRAM
Feeling lonely? Are you new to the Cal Poly campus? Need someone to complain to about the lethargic waste disposal that is your roommate? The CSA Super Sibling program could be what you are looking for. Participants are paired up with older CSA members that have similar interests or majors. Your super sibling is your guide and mentor to the ways of the college student. Interested? Check out a meeting and ask about it.
ASIAN AMERICAN FILM FESTIVAL
OPEN HOUSE
Hungry? Why wait? Grab yourself a hot serving of CSA beef. This fundraising event is an opportunity for CSA members to show off their blessed (or awful) cooking skills. Foods cooked in previous years include egg rolls and chow mein. Our menu changes yearly so you have to come taste this oral party for yourself.
